An introduction

Greetings and welcome to my blog.

I am a 40-year-old man of Finnish heritage, and my background is largely in natural science, especially of the applied kind, engineering to be more precise.

To me it seems to be a self-evident fact that the universe and thus also life in general has no intrinsic value nor purpose. Therefore it obviously follows that I cannot consider any culture nor idea to have any intrinsic value of any kind. I am not trying to imply that people should in my opinion be somehow bleak and/or apathetic, but rather that one should find and/or create things one considers meaningful and valuable, things one can genuinely believe in, if one wants to lead a more fulfilling life, that is.
It obviously takes a degree of determination to even get started on the often difficult process of overcoming the things that are holding one back from leading a more fulfilling life, but the end results just might be worth the trouble, of course.

The evolutionary history of our species seems to provide a lot of explanations for human behaviour: for example, it would seem to be fairly obvious that having a tendency to build and to maintain a positive self-image has been selected for quite strongly, and it seems that being imaginative has also been beneficial in our evolutionary history in a number of ways, but it would seem that when these often helpful traits are so dysfunctional that they override facts and reason, things tend to go at least a bit wrong and quite often very wrong if people with such issues have a lot of political power.
